How Drone XC is Making Parking Mode Smarter
"Parking mode" is a popular dash camera feature that activates recordings while your vehicle is parked and engine is off. This can be useful for capturing video evidence in the unfortunate event of a hit-and-run or vehicle break-in.
In order to capture these incidents, most dash cameras are always on and continue to draw power from the vehicle’s battery. This can be problematic if you’re parked for an extended period of time and you are not driving to recharge the battery. Over time, your dash camera will drain your battery and will either shut itself off or kill your battery altogether.
If you are concerned about these types of scenarios, please continue to read about how Drone XC is solving this problem by making parking mode smarter.
What is Drone XC?
Drone XC is an LTE-connected dash camera that functions similarly to other products, but with one key difference: Drone XC is the only dash cam that connects to an aftermarket alarm. This means that Drone XC can monitor your vehicle bumper-to-bumper and start video recordings when a real threat to your vehicle is detected.
Drone XC monitors the following aspects of your vehicle:
- Motion front-and-rear
- Impact
- Tilt
- Glass-breakage
- Door
- Hood
- Trunk
- Ignition
Please note that sensors 5-8 or only available when Drone XC is connected to an aftermarket alarm, such as Compustar.
How does Drone XC make parking mode smarter?
The problem with other dash cameras is that they remain active 24/7/365, or as long as your battery can keep its charge. So even if your vehicle is safely parked in its garage, other dash cameras will keep on recording and draining your battery at ~350mAH!
Drone XC solves this problem by making parking mode smarter. This is possible via our “Event” mode, which activates parking mode only when the system is armed. You can arm your system by pressing the “Lock” button in the DroneMobile App or on your aftermarket alarm’s remote. So if your vehicle is safely parked in the garage, Drone XC will go to sleep and preserve your battery.
Another problem with most dash cams is that they use the camera’s image sensor to detect motion. While this works in theory, it means that 99.9% of parking mode recordings are false alarms of pedestrians walking by. Furthermore, these dash cameras will continue draining your car’s battery while recording these pointless videos.
On the other hand, when Drone XC is connected to an aftermarket alarm, there are numerous sensors outside of the camera that can trigger a recording. While in the aforementioned “Event” mode, Drone XC will only record video when a real threat is detected, such as impact, tilt, or glass-breakage. This results in a 90% reduction in battery current draw compared to other dash cameras.
In summary, Drone XC makes parking mode smarter by only recording video when your security system is armed and a real threat is detected. This preserves your vehicle’s battery and ensures that your dash cam is only recording activity that matters.
